The Best Southern Peach Cobbler Recipe
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Bake Time: 45–50 Minutes
Servings: 8–10
This is the kind of peach cobbler that disappears at cookouts, church dinners, and family reunions. The peaches become thick and jammy while the buttery crust bakes golden brown.
Ingredients
Peach Filling
-
8 cups peaches, peeled and sliced (about 8–10 peaches)
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
½ cup brown sugar
-
2 tbsp cornstarch
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 tsp cinnamon
-
¼ tsp nutmeg
-
¼ tsp salt
Cobbler Topping
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
2 tsp baking powder
-
¼ tsp salt
-
1 cup milk
-
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Optional
-
Vanilla ice cream
-
Caramel drizzle
Tip
For the best flavor, use a mix of:
-
Fresh ripe peaches
-
Yellow peaches
-
White peaches
If peaches aren't in season, frozen peaches work perfectly.

Directions
Step 1: Prepare the Peaches
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Add peaches, sugars, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to a large bowl.
Mix until peaches are evenly coated.
Pour into a lightly greased 9x13 baking dish.
Step 2: Make the Cobbler Batter
In a separate bowl combine:
-
Flour
-
Sugar
-
Baking powder
-
Salt
Whisk together.
Add milk and melted butter.
Mix until smooth.
Step 3: Assemble
Pour the batter evenly over the peaches.
Do not stir.
The batter will rise around the peaches while baking and create that classic cobbler texture.
Step 4: Bake
Bake for 45–50 minutes or until:
-
Top is golden brown
-
Filling is bubbling around the edges
If needed, bake an additional 5 minutes for extra browning.
Step 5: Cool
Allow cobbler to rest for 15 minutes before serving.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
