What we witnessed yesterdsy with the Grammy nominations, wasn’t just a simple snub into the cool kid’s club. It was a bold statement, a referendum, made by the Grammy’s nomination and voting committee, endorsed by every black person in hip hop culture. The statement they are making is, “we don’t want Nicki Minaj here”. Withholding the appropriate nominations from Nicki ensures she remains Grammy-less as a stain they can use to discredit her legacy. The committee has elected to give out nominations and awards to female rappers, not based on impact or talent, but instead rewarding the lowest tier of them as a dig at Minaj’s artistry.
The decision to not nominate or award Nicki isn’t based on her music and its impactfulness or profits. Those items can be easily measured, and results obtained; its more than that. It’s the unspoken they won’t tell us about. Making the gaslighting easier while the entire industry machine operates under one agenda. Reclassifying “Super Freaky Girl” a rap song, into the pop category was a move made by the Grammy committee, to cover their tracks from the ire of the unassuming public.
The weak nonsensical explanation for the reclassification of “Super Freaky Girl” was to smooth over any wrinkles in the minds of the black community. Even taunting Nicki with the possibility of “Do We Have A Problem” being nominated in the rap category, leading the public to believe Nicki was indeed nominated and just ranting because she didn’t get her way. See how they had pread statements already in place upin release of the news? The Grammy committee effort to cleanse themselves by making Nicki look vain didn’t work. The only people who bought into that mundane of a cover up were the fools and trolls who occupy dusty blogs comments. They are nothing more than Instagram users who found a hot trendy topic in 2017 and were influenced by urban media, radio and some of your favorite black music artist to hate Nicki.
Remember I said in the 1st paragraph, Nicki isn’t being judged on her music, relevance, impact, influence or sales. Nope. She is being judged by the headlines from smear campaigns, her personal life choices and what she won’t do for others. Let me explain something really quick. The way we consume music has changed due to the streaming era. Radio is pretty much a pterodactyl and is struggling to remain relevant as the explosion of new artist hit the scene. Keep in mind, the new and increasing Billboard rule changes that cater to the new propped up internet artists who don’t have solid fanbases, or any real fanbase, but are out here giving them people names is pure stupidity.
Well, the Grammy’s are in the same situation. Attempting to maintain relevance as this constant influx of new and upcoming rappers seek to be rewarded. The Grammy’s are at the mercy of record labels and music entities seeking to make a profit. Ever wonder why Apple Music doesn’t release streaming numbers but they are counted on Billboard? Trust them they say, I laugh. The Grammy’s are only relevant if the labels back them and their artist attend with the hope of taking home the trophy. Established musical artist were the cream of the crop at one point but that is a fading select group of people. They bought with them huge fanbases that actually supported their music and other endeavors. As music consumption started to change and placed at our fingertips, the quality of the artist started to change. Mainstream artist now are being chosen more on their ability to go viral and amass social media followers than actual talent. None more so, than the clutter of female rappers we have today.
If the Grammy committee is judging solely off the merit of music and the MUSICs IMPACT, then Nicki would have an arsenal of Grammy’s. But they aren’t. They have been judging Nicki since 2010 on the whispers of the committee members, “she is difficult to work with, she is mean girl, oh she is just a fad”. From the beginning, the Grammy’s never knew what to do with Nicki Minaj. Her versatility and raps were on par with her male counterparts. Being placed in the same categories with them knowing she wouldn’t win. How do you explain to Jay Z, pink haired Nicki Minaj bested him at the Grammy’s? You don’t, Nicki just smiled and was thankful for being nominated. As Nicki crossed over she became a threat to the white pop girls. Well, how can you tell Katy Perry and Taylor Swift that a black female rapper from Queens, NY bested them? You don’t. Nicki was just put in those categories for the look of fairness.
As 2017 rolled in, the meager beginnings of the hate train were just revving up. And we all know by 2018, the hate train was in full motion on the track with no real destination. Its only job was to take out Nicki Minaj and crown Atlantic Records foul footed, double entendre of a mess as the new Queen of Rap. That is where the smear campaigns began. Along with radio blackballing, no streaming support and the blatant attempts to diminish Nicki’s legacy.
While working with music labels to retain relevancy, the Grammys are doing their bidding. The labels can keep their hands clean because we know they want their artist to work with Nicki Minaj. These girls need that Nicki cosign and access to her fanbase.
As it stands today, the Grammy’s and its committee members are a bunch of little whores willing to take the hit for the people pulling their strings. It’s not Nicki Minaj’s job to resurrect the careers of irrelevant artist or to participate in a versus battle with a relic of the past. “Super Freaky Girl” has amassed over 230 million streams in 3 months. Does that sound like a woman that needs a versus battle? What’s even sicker, is the fact the Grammy’s have a low tier subpar blogger as a member of their voting committee, who pushes smear campaigns about Nicki.
But what I am most appalled at is the silence from the pro black women in the music industry. I’m not talking about big foot. Suppressing Nicki Minaj so Scratch Off can win, should’ve had everyone calling out the lack of fairness from the Grammy’s. But it didn’t, because Nicki is judged by behavior and her unwillingness to stay silent when she is being disrespected. But the Grammy’s knew this would happen. They are only doing what black culture allowed. But be warned, the very thing that makes you laugh, will also make you cry. What they put in place for Nicki, will be the very practices these female rappers get burned by.
Why is the Grammy’s awarding musical mediocrity in female rap? Because labels like Atlantic want to keep the hate train going, so they are using social media to their advantage. Encouraging and fueling the trolls on social media to use the lack of a Grammy and nomination as drags against Nicki. They hope this will create a window for the slithering heavy tongue yak on their roster, to put out music that actually sells and real humans want to listen to.
Then entities like Roc Nation management are suffering a lot with the rapid and hilarious decline of Big Foot. Yall don’t think they could use a show of support from Nicki? Imagine how that would change Big Foot’s perception and sales. I believe (strictly my opinion) they tried, and The Queen said no. Which is why Nicki doesn’t get support from them. I also suspect there are some bitter feelings, as Nicki worked her way thru the concerted hate train effort and a certain former member/client of the Roc team career went downhill.
For the yelping dogs in the back. A Grammy is only as meaningful as the artist that it is awarded to. Scratch Off, Big Foot and Eddie from Frazier have set a bar so low, only maggots can crawl under it. They are giving female rappers Grammy awards to spite Nicki, not because these cluster of hens are talented. Intended to remind Nicki of what she doesn’t have and make that toilet accessory of an award be the determining factor of a female rapper’s success. I have news for the imbeciles on the Grammy committee…that award doesn’t define Nicki Minaj. Nicki’s impact and influence are felt in real life and her fan support is reciprocated in terms of sales, streams and tickets sold. The Grammy’s would have the public thinking it’s some magical formula of impact they concocted behind the scenes. When it’s really label greased palms. Propping up IG influencers disguised as female rappers to help them gain profitability, makes the Grammy’s and its committee members equally as disgusting as the labels that grease their palms.
Nicki Minaj is an international superstar. The lack of a Grammy doesn’t stop her commercial success, worldwide influence and the impact of shaping the female rap genre. What Nicki has done and continues to do, should have been rewarded. I see all this talk of giving out flowers, when is Nicki getting hers? Not because she has been in the game and running it for 15 years but because she is the standard of female rap.
To the trolls on Twitter, yall do realize, Nicki wasn’t nominated due to an intentional act of suppression. Only bum bitchs need to have all the competition removed so they can win. And that makes the Grammy’s the real bitch ass loser in this situation.
