Chicago Barbz are getting a night of their own.

Makeup artist, content creator and longtime Nicki Minaj fan Ria Contour is preparing to bring Nicki Nite to Chicago this December, creating a space centered around the music, fashion and community that have defined the Barbz for years.

Ria joined Pynk Siren on Pink World Station's Barbz Spotlight to talk about everything from discovering Nicki Minaj before Pink Friday to having Nicki repost one of her looks—and, of course, what she's planning for Nicki Nite.

For Ria, however, the upcoming event is about more than putting Nicki songs on a playlist.

It's about bringing the Barb community together.

 

Ria Contour Has Been a Barb Since Nicki Minaj's Early Days

Ria's history with Nicki goes back well before the superstar's debut studio album.

During her conversation with Pink World Station, Ria recalled discovering Nicki's music sometime between 2006 and 2009, during the era when fans were finding new artists through early social media, online videos and DVD compilations.

By around 2009, Ria was fully tuned in.

That means she witnessed the transition from mixtape-era Nicki into the explosion that came with Pink Friday in 2010.

And when it comes to choosing an iconic Nicki era, Pink Friday still holds a special place.

The album showed just how versatile Nicki could be. Records like "Save Me" displayed a softer and more vulnerable side of her artistry, while songs such as "Super Bass" helped turn her into a mainstream pop force.

The era also brought collaborations, colorful visuals and the larger-than-life aesthetic that would become synonymous with early Nicki.

Being a Barb is only one part of Ria's story.

She's also a makeup artist, which means Nicki's constantly changing beauty looks have provided years of inspiration.

She even shared a practical beauty tip during the interview. For anyone struggling to create the perfect winged liner, Ria recommends keeping your hand steady—but also remembering that the initial line doesn't have to be flawless.

There's also one Barb moment Ria has that most fans would probably love to experience themselves:

Nicki noticed her.  Ria recreated one of Nicki's memorable leopard-inspired looks while attending the Pink Friday 2 World Tour's Gag City, and Nicki later reposted the recreation.

For a longtime fan who had followed Nicki since the early days, having the artist herself acknowledge the look created a full-circle moment.

And beauty will naturally be part of Ria's plans for Nicki Nite as well.

There's just one problem.

She has a very specific hairstyle in mind—a feathered, layered bob—and finding someone who can recreate exactly what she envisions has proven harder than expected.

Considering the history of Nicki's wigs, however, finding the right hair for a Nicki-themed night might be part of the experience.

Why Ria Is Creating Nicki Nite Chicago

The idea for Nicki Nite Chicago came partly from Ria's own experiences as a fan.

After missing previous events, she decided she wanted to create an experience herself—one where Chicago Barbz could actually come together in person.

And Chicago has already demonstrated that its Barb community will show up.

Ria talked about seeing impressive turnouts from local fans even when previously scheduled Nicki-related events didn't go according to plan.

That sense of community became part of the motivation behind Nicki Nite.

The goal isn't simply to throw another party.

It's to create a night that feels like Gag City meeting the early Nicki Minaj era.

For longtime Barbz, that means nostalgia.

For newer fans, it offers a chance to experience music from different stages of Nicki's career alongside people who love it just as much as they do.

What Can Fans Expect at Nicki Nite Chicago?

Ria is still keeping some of her plans under wraps, but she revealed several pieces of the experience during her Pink World Station interview.

Fans can expect Nicki Minaj music, themed decor, raffles, organized activities and opportunities for Barbz to socialize throughout the night.

And obviously, the music matters.

When asked to build part of her ideal Nicki Nite soundtrack, Ria chose "I'm the Best" as an opening song.

It's an appropriate choice.

The Pink Friday opener has always felt like an introduction and declaration at the same time, making it an easy way to kick off a room full of Barbz.

Ria also wants those moments when practically everyone in the building knows what's coming next.

Songs like "Good Form" and "Hard White" are among the records she can imagine a room full of fans chanting together.

That's ultimately the atmosphere she's trying to create: not people simply listening to Nicki Minaj music in the same building, but Barbz experiencing it together.

The Barb Community Became a Sisterhood

One of the more personal moments of the conversation came when Ria discussed what being part of the Barb community has meant to her.

She described finding a sense of sisterhood and support within the fanbase.

Nicki herself also became a source of confidence for Ria during her middle school years.

Watching an artist be unapologetically herself helped reinforce the idea that Ria didn't have to shrink herself to fit other people's expectations.

It's one reason the upcoming Chicago event has meaning beyond fandom.

Online fan communities can connect people across the world, but an event like Nicki Nite gives those relationships a physical place to exist.

People who have interacted through TikTok, X, Instagram or other Barb spaces suddenly get to meet, dance, take pictures and celebrate together in the same room.

Could Nicki Nite Come to New York, Atlanta or Miami?

Chicago may only be the beginning.

During the interview, Ria expressed interest in eventually bringing similar Nicki-centered events to other major cities, including New York, Atlanta and Miami.

Those plans aren't finalized, and expanding would require finding the right venues and working through logistics in cities outside Chicago.

For now, the focus remains on making the December Chicago event successful.

But if Chicago's Barbz show up, Nicki Nite could potentially become something much bigger.
