Nicki Minaj has a lot of reasons to be smiling today. Not only is her new single “Super Freaky Girl” a massive hit upon release, but it has garnered the legendary MC, another accolade. “Super Freaky Girl” a sample of the late great Rick James’ classic, “Super Freak” has broken a Spotify record. It’s now the biggest debut for a solo female rap song in Spotify history, surpassing Doja Cat’s “Ain’t Sh!t”. At #13 on the Global Spotify chart with 3.021 million streams, “Super Freaky Girl” is dominating the international airwaves. The single accumulated a whopping 1.5 million U.S Spotify streams within the first 24 hours of tracking.

This is a phenomenal moment in hip hop history and female rap. Nicki Minaj, 15 years into her career has transfigured to a Thanos type being in hip-hop. “Super Freaky Girl” is out performing female rappers who are being positioned, as the leading faces for the genre. Let’s put some context to that statement for clarity and understanding. Megan Thee Stallion released her full-length album the same date as “Super Freaky Girl”, on 8/12. As of 8/13, Thee Stallion’s 18-track album had 6 songs charting on Spotify.

As of the time Nicki Minaj’s Global Spotify shattering debut was announced, Thee Stallion’s 6 songs being tracked by U.S Spotify had only garnered 2,143,546 streams. That is a difference of 573,546 streams between Thee Stallion’s 6 debuting songs, off her 18-track album charting on U.S Spotify and “Super Freaky Girl” U.S Spotify debut numbers (1.57M). This isn’t a slight against the artist. It’s only being used to give proper context in fully understanding how unparalleled what “Super Freaky Girl” accomplished is.

With 3million+ streams, “Super Freaky Girl” sets the Spotify record for the highest debut for a solo female rap song in history. “Super Freaky Girl” (41) also surpassed Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” (40) and becomes the black female song with the most #1’s on iTunes in 2022. “Super Freaky Girl” earned the prestige of being Nicki Minaj’s 11th song to debut at #1 on the Worldwide iTunes chart, and without any hesitation, The Queen becomes the first solo female rapper to reach #1 on the UK iTunes chartcourtesy of “Super Freaky Girl”.

In less than 24 hours, “Super Freaky Girl” shot to #1 on iTunes in over 50 countries. Within an hour of release, it soared to the #1 spot on the U.S iTunes chart, extending Nicki’s record as the RAPPER with the most #1 songs in U.S iTunes history. We just love a record shattering Queen.

Personally, I think music lovers whether stan or casual listener have been waiting for Nicki’s public return to the helm of the female rap ship. And “Super Freaky Girl” is the anthem that rallied the troops. Nicki Minaj has solidified her legacy. She is the moment; the driving force behind female rap and cultural icon. Congratulations Nicki.
