Nicki Minaj Prepares For PF2 As Hip Hop Circus Uses Her Name For Relevance

Pull up a chair folks, the PR stunts and last-minute scrambling for career relevancy has begun; and it is a hoot to watch. Like waters receding after a storm, the label support is dwindling, leaving a certain female rap character trying to rewrite history and cement themselves as a credible artist. Used as a disposable pawn in a game they thought to be seated at, not realizing the stakes were more than they could afford, and the seat was never going to be theirs. 

Nicki rapped “if they don’t get the big picture, they get cropped out” in the Crocodile Teeth Remix and no words have rung truer. It was never about Penny Wise, she was just a means to the bigger agenda, the ousting of Nicki Minaj and loosening the stronghold she holds on the biggest portion of the female rap fanbase. 

 

Nicki is a threat to what the music industry wants to turn female rap into; a 360 deal assembly line of influencers using rap as a credibility vehicle. It won’t be about talent anymore. Instead it will be about labels recouping profits from low tier endorsements to subsidize the playlist payments, cost of music video visuals, and the lack of an organic fanbase that buys the music. 

You all remember the heavy push streaming received in 2018, and in despite of Minaj championing for artist streaming rights, it was the streaming platforms and playlisting world that were weaponized against her. Well, fast forward to 2023 and who sits atop the streaming charts? That Nicki reign just won’t let up. 

It was reported that rap music sales are down 40% this year despite the lies they are feeding the public of ‘all the girls are winning.’ Why is hip-hop/rap struggling if the girls are “floorishing??” The answer is simple; they aren’t winning as much as they would have us think. And if you paid attention like I know you have, it wasn’t until Nicki posted the release date of her highly anticipated 5th studio album “Pink Friday 2” that female rap (and a lot of male rappers) started talking about their upcoming albums. 

Nicki is a solidified global superstar, there is a legitimate demand for a complete body of work from her. Not only is there a demand for Nicki’s album but there is a demand for her presence which gives her the thing the industry covets the most; organic traction and an independent algorithm.

With all that said, let’s bring Penny Wise back to the front. Black men propped her up, black women gave her the cosign, and white industry executives fueled its success, so what could go wrong? Shouldn’t Penny be sitting high on the hog? With no real discernible talent,Penny has been gifted (never earned), almost every award that a musical artist can earn off the back of 1 album that was released almost 6 years ago. 

A 6-year career with the most underwhelming features, poorly performing singles due to the label no longer paying for radio, and a complete lack of artistry, musical growth and inability to rap or write a raps. So, what went wrong? The agenda failed, and the façade crumbled.

 

If you haven’t noticed by now, Penny and family is in crisis mode. There is an active attempt to rewrite history and give her this legitimacy and credibility they have stolen from the greatest female lyricist alive. Now it’s “I write my raps,” and “I only get help with hooks,” which we all know is not truthful, but the audacity one needs to say this and keep a straight face should have us all worried. 

Penny is lying and fighting to remain a part of the conversation that no one wants her in. She bragged about not writing raps and only being in it for the money and damn near every industry black man and every OG female rapper in the industry cosigned it. When Nicki talked about her pen game/writing her raps and her passion for the craft, she was mocked and told to shut up “nobody cares if you write.” 

Penny doesn’t have to write, she is “real and likeable”. Those are words spoken from the same men that worry about Drake’s pen? Make it make sense. Penny said fck being lyrical in 2018, so what is this “bar talk” in 2023? 

 

The climate changed. The Queen changed it. She stayed true to herself, while more female rappers started publicly voicing pride in writing their raps, and that was like ether to Penny’s soul. She wanted to be a part of that conversation and if you remember a lot of the female rappers who talked about their pen game had features with Nicki. Ether to the soul. 

 

 

But the race to keep her career intact has her sweating bullets as she has made this a family affair. As quiet as it is kept, Hip Hop Harry is struggling just as bad as Penny Wise. His career is on life support and they decided to make saving their flopping asses ‘couples goals’ with the increased PR stunts. What is happening you ask? Well, I will tell you because I’m generous that way. 

Minaj is the real wave and there is no real interest in music from Penny or Hip-Hop Harry, so the traction isn’t there to push a project to garner organic results. So, they must attach their names to Nicki to be seen on an active and organic algorithm. Promo runs don’t work if people aren’t tuned into you. And from the looks of it, no one is tuned into Penny nor Hip Hop Harry.  

The industry is no longer pushing Penny Wise and all those in her orbit are scrambling to remain relevant. Rewriting history will never get you credibility; it only delays the inevitable, the realization that Penny Wise has no talent and is incapable of showing artistic growth because she is of no substance. Are those words harsh? Yes. You will never succeed when your career is built off the suppression of someone else.
