Nicki Minaj Owns The Barbie Aesthetic! ‘Super Freaky Girl’ Review

Nicki Minaj so effortlessly served us an amazing visual with the release of the official “Super Freaky Girl” music video. She stuns in pink alongside her co-star and current heart throb, Alexander Ludwig. The pair made for quiet the visual appetizer in the video. Ms. Minaj was serving looks, body, face and that undeniable charm.

We absolutely loved the video. It was beautifully shot and directed by Joseph Kahn and stayed true to who “Nicki Minaj” the aesthetic and brand is. In my opinion, music videos for raunchy songs can be tricky because you are either going to deliver a storyline that’s either basic or too far away from the song and artist brand. With “Super Freaky Girl” Mr. Kahn was not only in tuned with the song but what the brand of Nicki Minaj looks like visually. I hope that makes sense lol.

In character as the ultimate suburban Barbie, Nicki Minaj channels the storyline of the movie “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. If you saw the movie it makes sense, if not go and check it out, it’s worth it. In Mr. Kahn’s music video adaptation of the movie, everything is set with a pink backdrop and masterfully done. It wasn’t just dashes of pink color, but Nicki Minaj’s personality and femininity intertwined into it.

This is what gives a music video replay value in my opinion; the ability to capture your attention visually and mentally stimulating enough to have you want to watch it again.

“I got a princess face, killer body and samurai mind”

First, Nicki’s face card will never decline. Every look in this video was executed with perfection. Nicki Minaj twerking barefoot in the grass with some white men’sbuttoned down on is my favorite look of the video. It’s just Nicki having fun doing what she loves, and no one can be mad at that. The scene where she gave homage to the iconic Rick James “Super Freak” photo just sent me. Standing in the iconic Barbie box, Nicki really channeled the energy of the late Rick James.

The kitchen counter scene with Alexander sitting between Nicki’s legs and she had the knife was too cute. You could feel their chemistry and that is what makes a music video worth watching repeatedly. They were both in theirelement and Alexander complimented Nicki’s aesthetic. Very well done.

I think Nicki’s early acceptance of being beautiful and feminine while spitting hard, is what makes her aesthetic pleasing and not overpowering. Maybe she learned earlyon, you don’t have to growl like a “n*gga” to convey your thoughts and emotions. You can be a woman and use your trained vocal assets, facial expressions and hand movements to work with you.

There were too many looks in the “Super Freaky Girl” music video to dive into one by one. Personally, I give this video 10/10. Not because I’m a stan, but because It was cohesive, visually appealing, very well directed, on brand for Nicki Minaj and the on-scene chemistry between the co-stars. All these positives combined gives replay value. Something we don’t see a lot of now.

And we know “Super Freaky Girl” is gagging the girls and boys while continuing to shatter records. It has become the fastest selling solo female rap song to reach this milestone and is eligible for Gold certification having moved over 500k units since release. Come thru Nicki!!!

Congratulations on your continued success
