Nicki Minaj Takes A Ride With Sexyy Red For ‘Pound Town 2’

“I aint get this ratchet in a minute chile.”

Nicki Minaj penned in an open letter to her loyal Barbz announcing the release of her verse on the “Pound Town 2” remix. Nicki joined forces with St. Louis rapper Sexyy Red and producer Tay Keith and sent the internet into shambles with the “Pound Town 2”remix. Nicki literally broke the internet with her announcement as fans rushed to listen to the song and let me say, she didn’t disappoint.

Most barbz were familiar with “Pound Town” due to its virality on social media. Sexyy Red’s and Tay Keith’s “Pound Town” was released earlier this year and has been viral on TikTok for months. “Pound Town” saw several notable rappers and1entertainer showing Sexyy Red love. The up and coming rapper has definitely created a lane for herself and embodies the “round the way girl” persona.

Sexyy Red has a distinctive flow and raps with a level of self-confidence that makes her sexual lyrics feel like a tease. In this age of women taking control of and owning their sexuality, it is refreshing to see the legend and the up and coming female rapper be lyrically free to express themselves. And I believe that is the underlying message of “Pound Town 2” remix, sexual freedom in the form of art and women emboldening each other.

In my opinion, this is what makes Nicki and Sexyy Red flow so cohesively together. Nicki has always owned her sexuality and has found her way to ‘speak’ itand Sexyy Red has the confidence and delivery that makes “Pound Town 2” more like girl talk.

A glance at the writing credits and we see Sexyy Red is putting that pen to work and understands the importance of being in control of her career.

Even with the underlying message of sexual liberation, the most important thing to remember about “Pound Town 2” is that it’s a fun song. As Sexyy Red playfully raps “I’m tryna get my coochie scratched”, you can’t help but chuckle at the playful nature of this song. “I Like a nigga with a check; All my niggas give me neck”, she continues to rap, and the starting tone of the song is light.

Nicki Minaj enters and switches the dynamic…playful but lyrical. That is what makes Nicki such a force to be reckoned with. She knows how to own the beat and bend it to her will. First of all, the flows are insane in this remix and couple that with her wordplay and entendres-she bodied in a way only Nicki Minaj could. I have always said Nicki has a sound that is true to her and not easily replicated which is why her flows and wordplay are quickly called out when attempted. She is one of only a few female rappers that has an original sound but Nicki’s ability to evolve her sound is what puts her in a class by herself.

Nicki raps leading into her verse “Ayy, yo, Red, my name is Pink, I made him go get that ink”, she’s acknowledging Sexyy Red and her obvious love for the color pink while shouting out Zoo’s tattoo of her name. Other notable bars are “Imma flip like a hundred bricks, get back all my licks” and the humorous “I aint talking about chicken when I jerk it with my tits”. The bridge consists of Nicki on a phone call informing someone their baby daddy popping their bussy in her dm.

This is what unity looks like in female rap but because it doesn’t coincide with the industry narrative about Nicki-they won’t acknowledge it as such. Please know and understand the importance of free thought and critical thinking in this age of intentional misinformation on social media. There are labels and female rappers engaging in treacherous tactics to hang on to their fleeting careers.Keep your focus on the music. The music will always tell the story for generations to come.
